L-Tyrosine

What is L-Tyrosine?

L-Tyrosine is a naturally occurring, non-essential amino acid which is formed by phenylalanine in the body. It plays an important role in producing the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine. Tyrosine is a pigment imparting agent for the skin and is also used in the synthesis of structural proteins. It can be found in significant quantity in lean proteins such as fish, eggs, whole grain oats, and poultry. It can also be found in dairy products like cheese, milk and yoghurt. Since L-tyrosine happens to be non essential amino acid, it can also be synthesized from other amino acids.

How does it work?

Tyrosine is an extremely important amino acid because it is used in the production of neuro-transmitters like dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. These are integral for communication of messages that come from the nerves and have a significant influence on one’s mood. They also play a part in regulating hormones that come from the pituitary gland, thyroid gland and the adrenal gland. These chemicals balance our mind as well as our body and are hence extremely helpful in alleviating stress and anxiety. While the body is responsible for managing and balancing the level of Tyrosine, supplemental L-Tyrosine can also make a significant difference in resolving the symptoms of stress, anxiety and low mood etc.
